Winter Wedding at The Old Hall Ely | Cambridgeshire Wedding Photographer
G & P’s winter wedding at The Old Hall Ely in December was such a special one to photograph. Although they now live in a different country, they grew up locally, so coming back to Ely to celebrate with family and friends made the whole day feel really meaningful.
With around 20–30 guests, it was a lovely intimate wedding filled with warmth, laughter and so much love from everyone there.

A Cosy December Wedding
Winter weddings have such a unique atmosphere, and this one had the most beautiful cosy feel. The venue was filled with warm lighting and fairy lights, which created such a lovely setting for the day.
While the couple were getting ready, there was a really sweet moment when the bride's dad came in to see her. They shared a big hug before the ceremony and it was such a genuine, emotional moment to capture.

Another really lovely personal touch was the traditional flower leis worn by the couple, bridal party and groomsmen. The garlands added something really special and personal to the day.
The weather actually turned out perfectly. It was cold, as you’d expect in December, but there was no wind or rain, so we could head outside for photos and confetti without shivering.

Quick Couple Photos in the Gardens
I always keep couple portraits really relaxed and natural. G & P weren’t away from their guests for long at all. We took about 5–10 minutes to wander into the gardens for some photos together.
The winter light was honestly beautiful. Even though you never expect amazing weather in December, that soft light made the gardens a perfect backdrop for a few quiet moments away from the celebrations.

A Beautiful Reception
The reception room looked absolutely beautiful, with warm lighting that made everything feel so cosy and festive. The couple had even prepared little baubles for guests to take home as wedding favours, which was such a lovely touch.

The speeches were really special, there was so much love in the room and you could really see how much everyone cared about G & P. From the moment I arrived, their family made me feel so welcome. It honestly felt like I’d been invited as part of the celebrations.

A Lovely Venue for a Winter Wedding
The Old Hall Ely is such a beautiful venue for a winter wedding. The building itself has so much character, and the team there are incredibly professional and helpful.
They made everything run smoothly while still allowing the day to feel relaxed and natural, which always helps couples enjoy their wedding without feeling rushed.

Winter Weddings Are So Underrated
Winter weddings can be really special to photograph. Couples often plan the day expecting typical winter weather, so when you do get the chance to step outside for photos it feels like a little bonus.
The cosy atmosphere, warm lighting and more intimate guest lists often make winter weddings feel really personal and relaxed, exactly the kind of celebrations I love to capture.

If you’re planning a wedding in Cambridgeshire and are looking for natural, relaxed photography, I’d love to hear about your plans.
